Best Blessing

Lately, I've been jealous of poets
writing about love;
From deep inside, I have not heard
from my dove.
______
All around us is the inept war on drugs;
Look at frowns on parents' mugs.
______
Violence and gangs create lethal strife;
50% divorce and junk bonds
loosens embrace of husband and wife.
______
Best for your soul is being blessed with
a pregnancy giving you a baby;
For parents, getting into Heaven
is almost never a maybe.
______
Son or daughter, I have no preference;
10 fingers and 10 toes plus algebra
should be the standard reference.
______
You are sometimes blessed
with an unwanted kid;
Training a child to want
their parents' hug
reverses a nasty skid.
______
When a smart kid begins
best forever of
fitting into his home;
Love replaces the
parents slamming their child
into the dust -- unneeded & alone.

To Carry, Mario, Jenny, and Ruth;
The pain of losing you is not a fun truth !
May God have mercy on us ?
